Africa's AI Sovereignty Movement — Founded by Dr. Sanjay Benjamin

The AI Sovereignty Network was founded by Dr. Sanjay Benjamin — a technology strategist, AI sovereignty advocate, and author with more than 35 years of IT enterprise experience, including 25+ years living and working across Africa.

Dr. Benjamin has been in the rooms where Africa's technology agreements get signed — and has seen first-hand how the digital dependency architecture is built. His book, AI or Be Owned, is the intelligence briefing and action framework those rooms produced. His son schooled in Uganda. His daughter was born in Uganda. Africa is not a market. It is home.

The AI Sovereignty Network exists because Africa's AI future must be decided by Africans — not inherited from foreign technology corporations. This movement is larger than any one founder. It belongs to the continent.

Building Sector-Specific Frameworks for Africa's AI Sovereignty

The 8-Pillar Framework applied through eight industry-specific lenses — because AI sovereignty in oil and gas looks different from AI sovereignty in healthcare or telecommunications.

ASOG
AI Sovereignty for Oil & Gas
Secure data. Resilient operations. National value.
ASM
AI Sovereignty for Mining
Smart mining. Safe operations. Local impact.
ASP
AI Sovereignty for Ports & Logistics
Efficient flows. Sovereign corridors.
ASE
AI Sovereignty for Energy & Utilities
Reliable energy. Resilient infrastructure.
ASH
AI Sovereignty for Healthcare
Better outcomes. Protected data. Health for all.
ASFI
AI Sovereignty for Financial Institutions
Inclusive finance. Secure systems. Trusted AI.
ASG
AI Sovereignty for Government
Smart governance. Public trust. National progress.
AST
AI Sovereignty for Telecommunications
Connected Africa. Sovereign networks.

Africa's future will be shaped by countries that can govern, secure, finance, regulate and improve AI in alignment with their own national interests.

Africa's ability to shape the global AI transition will depend on collaboration, institutional strength, and the networks built today. A Washington DC attorney and AI governance advisor makes the case.
